Recognized as one of the world’s most acclaimed orchestra conductors, the late James DePreist led the Oregon Symphony to new heights during his 23 years as its music director. His remarkable story is told in a new memoir by his widow Ginette — a book the former classical music critic of the New York Times called “warm, wise, and engaging.” Ginette was joined in conversation by OHS Boyle Family Executive Director Kerry Tymchuk. Copies of the book are available for purchase and signing through the OHS Museum Store.

Ginette DePreist sat for an interview with Susan Lewis while DePreist was in Philadelphia for the Philadelphia Orchestra’s rededication of Marian Anderson Hall which “brought into sharp focus the rich legacy of a groundbreaking contralto and civil rights icon who called Philadelphia home.” Ginette’s new memoir “shares a more intimate view into that legacy, chronicling the life and career of the renowned classical music conductor James DePreist, Anderson’s nephew, whom she helped raise.”
